Panel 3 - Social Determinants of Health: challenges for networks of information and knowledge

The World Health Organization, through the creation of the Commission on Social Determinants of Health (CSDH) in 2005, took the leadership of a global movement around these social determinants (SDH), emphasizing the use of scientific evidences to support the actions of governments and civil society on the SDH for the promotion of health equity. One of the main lines of action of the CSDH was the creation of knowledge networks on various subjects related to SDH. These networks had been integrated by specialized institutions, with world-wide recognition, and they had analyzed information and knowledge available on the respective subjects to formulate recommendations for intersectorial public policies.

This panel, in the context of CRICS8, has the objective to analyze the experiences of Brazil and USA in the use of scientific evidences related to SDH for the analysis of the ir health situation and for the definition of public polices aimed to promote health equity. The panel will also review the advances and challenges of this movement around SDH under the leadership of WHO.
