TropIKA.net (www.tropika.net ) is a new initiative supported by the WHO-based Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) and is co-managed by TDR and BIREME/PAHO/WHO. TropIKA.net uses strategic knowledge management to provide health researchers and decision decision-makers with equitable access to scientific information, facilitate identification of research gaps and priorities and promote translation of research findings into innovative public health interventions in the field of infectious diseases of poverty. This presentation will describe the various components of the initiative including: sharing and reviewing scientific literature and research findings; use of collaborative tools to facilitate broad-based participation of disease-endemic countries in discussion and formulation of current and emerging research priorities; increased contribution of stakeholders to the agenda setting at large health research forums; and improved access to scientific information on infectious diseases of poverty. The initiative is designed to harness the strength of the collective knowledge of the scientific community and stakeholders in support of a new research agenda and commitment to fight infectious diseases of poverty
